WAI and Livity play key role in ChildLine competition

July 20th 2011: ChildLine and SBTV have launched Final Verse  a competition supported by MC James Devlin, the UK’s latest crossover Grime talent. Final Verse offers young performers the opportunity to record the last verse to Teardrops, an uncompleted track written and recorded by Devlin.

This is the first instance that Devlin, who has just finished his sell-out UK tour, has officially endorsed a charity. The lucky winner of this ChildLine competition will record their original lyrics in a studio, meet Devlin and feature in the music video to Teardrops. The track and video will feature on SBTV alongside existing interviews with stars like Nicki Minaj, N-Dubz and Bruno Mars.

The Final Verse site was created by leading creative technical agency, WAI in partnership with youth communications agency Livity which also developed the Final Verse concept for ChildLine, secured celebrity involvement and endorsement, and is managing the partnership with popular online youth broadcaster SBTV.  Content is managed by Livity through Supadu, the webpage building platform full of cool apps enabling creative, marketing and non-technical individuals to become their own web publishers.

The bespoke entry form, set as an iframe within the page, was also built by WAI and allows approved entrants to view their submission on the Childline Final Verse YouTube Channel. Budding young artists also receive a link to their own personalised copy of the Teardrops music video featuring their uploaded performance, which they can share with friends and family online. YouTube views and ‘likes’ of entries will influence the final shortlist. The clever form directs successful applicants to tailored thank you pages depending on their preferences.

Supported by a leading urban talent including Wiz Khalifa, Ed Sheeran and Chipmunk, the competition is open for 4 weeks. The winner will be picked from a shortlist of 20 entries by a panel made up from the world of UK music, including Devlin; Jamal Edwards, the founder of SBTV; and Ben Scarr of Island Records who signed both Tinchy Stryder and Devlin.

WAI Managing Director Geoff Metzger said: “WAI and Supadu are lucky to service a host of great organizations. This project, though, is particularly close to our hearts and we hope that our efforts and solutions will give many young people the opportunity to express themselves in a creative way and showcase their talent to the music world”.

The aim of Final Verse is to let young people know that ChildLine cares about what matters to them and that talking about problems is the first step towards solving them.

Ian MacArthur, Chief Marketing Officer of NSPCC added: “Its important that all young people feel able to express themselves and share their worries no matter how big or small and music is a brilliant route to channel that through. Having Devlin as our ambassador on the project allows us to demonstrate how relevant and pure that expression can be and hopefully show that ChildLine and Final Verse are for everyone who wants a chance to speak out”
