Search engine optimisation is a process that helps drive traffic to your website by listing higher in search engines. When done properly, it can be an effective marketing tool when promoting your website and a cheaper alternative to pay-per-clip campaigns.

Since Supadu also works as a content management system, its SEO modules have broken down this process and allow easy implementation of SEO practises onto your site. Right click on your page and then select Page>SEO to edit the fields.

Keyword research is the basis of any effective search engine optimisation campaign; selecting the right keywords will help customers and search engines find you. The following things should be contemplated when conducting keyword research:

-    Keyword research tools such as Google AdWords and Wordtracker will help you select the right words or phrases, while evaluating the competition.

-    A general rule of thumb is to select words and phrases that have at least 100 daily searches and a maximum of 30,000 competing pages.

-    Aim for a selection of around 10 -15 keywords or phrases that make up around 2 - 4% percent of your copy.

-    Keywords can be incorporated into the following:  page content, URL, metadata, alt attribute
s, header tags and anchor text. All these are editable features in Supadu.

Metadata – This is the “page description” and “page keyword” field of the Supadu SEO modules. Also known as “meta description” and “meta keywords”, they provide a clear list of keywords that help summarise your site and give a brief description of your webpage. It is information a search engine will use when crawling and displaying your website.

Alt attribute – This is the text that appears in place of your image should the image not render (often due to a page with lots of graphics loading slowly).

 Other SEO practises

Link Building – Link popularity is a serious thing considered by search engines. The more sites that have links that point to your website, the higher you are likely to rank in search engines. This is part of off-page optimisation.

Submitting sitemaps and URLs to Google for indexing – Manually submitting your site to Google is a way to ensure you’re included in search results. You can submit your main URL or an XML sitemap so that all of your web pages are considered.

Creating meaningful and high-quality content – It is important to maintain a good standard of interesting and well written content. While using keywords is highly advised, you should not compromise the quality of your content.

Submitting links to directories – Submitting your website URL to web directories is another way to link build and allow people to find your site.
