Here's a glossary of the terms you might hear us use when talking about Supadu. We try and keep things as simple as possible, but sometimes we accidentally drop in the odd acronym or technical jargon. We hope the list below helps decode those words we may use.

Alt tags |
Simple text descriptions of images and buttons on a web page. These are a good way of helping a search engine understand the content of a page where there isn't text to be read. |

App |
Short for "Application". A small, self-contained snippet of functionality that adds interaction to the page. |

Bandwidth |
The rate at which data is transmitted from the server to the user. |
|
Campaign Landing Page |
A destination page built to support a marketing campaign and used as a destination to send users from other marketing such as email or print campaigns. These are similar to a microsite, and will often have a form of data capture to measure the response to the campaign. |

CDN |
"Content Delivery Network". Often used for video and large files. A widely distributed network of web servers containing copies of data in order to maximize access to the content demanded by users at any point on the network, e.g. Akamai, Limelight. |

CMS |

Content Management System |
In the context of Supadu, we use the term CMS to describe a system allowing users to update and publish website content under a defined publishing work flow. This is usually done within a browser-based environment, and often in a separate data-entry environment to the website itself. |

Data capture |
The process of capturing information from the user using forms built into the page. This could be for email newsletter sign-ups or competition entries. |
|
Drag and Drop |
The action of moving a digital element from one on-screen location to another by clicking and dragging it with the mouse. |
|
DRM |
"Digital Rights Management". A bit of code attached to a media file (e.g. video or audio), that acts as a virtual fingerprint and prevents the file from being unlawfully copied. |

e-Commerce |
Electronic Commerce. Online shopping, in a nutshell. |
|
e-CRM |
Acronym: "Electronic Customer Relation Management". Essentially the process of keeping in touch with your clients using email newsletters. |

Enhanced Press Release |
Similar to a "campaign landing page" Supadu offers an excellent set of tools to create an enhanced destination for distributed press releases. The enhanced press release can carry video, images, audio and social media such as Twitter and Facebook |

Flash |
A multimedia and animation development application by Adobe. Often used to develop complex interactivity and gameplay in websites. |

Geo-location |
The location of a user, or device connected to the internet using various detection techniques. |

Hex value |
Short for 'hexadecimal' value. A system of numbers used to define colour in a web browser. E.g. white = FFFFFF, and black = 000000 |

Image carousel |
A series of images that play in succession in the same space. |
|
In-browser |
The process of creating and updating content from within the browser rather than using a 3rd-party application. E.g. Supadu allows users to create a web page from within the browser, so what you see is what you get (see "WYSIWYG") |

ISBN |
"International Standard Book Number" A unique 10-digit number that identifies published books. |
|
Javascript |
Universal scipting code used to add interactivity to a web page without using 3rd-party plug-ins such as Adobe Flash |

Meta data |
Additional information added to the page for the purpose of search engine indexing. See "SEO" and "alt tags" |

Metrics |
User data attributed to the visitors' behaviour in a website. The most basic metrics would count the number of visitors in a month, and the number of page views. This is a useful gauge of popularity of content and success of any online marketing campaign. For sites that carry advertising, metrics are related to revenue generated by the site. |

Microsite |
A small, self-contained website held under a larger website. Usually used to promote something specific, and often for a limited period of time. Many microsite have a distinct look and feel that is in line with the product being promoted rather than inheriting the style of the main website. See "campaign landing page" |

Online video platform |
A sophisticated video player allowing videos to be delivered and managed via a management system. E.g. Brightcove, Ooyala, Longtail Video Player. |

PNG file |
"Portable Network Graphic" - an image file formate which allows cut-out shapes and smooth transparency |
|
Roll-over |
Visual feedback from a button when the mouse hover over it. A highlight image is added to a button and is revealed when the mouse cursor is over the button. |

RSS |
Acronym: "Really Simple Syndication". RSS is a standard web feed format used to publish frequently updated content such as blogs and news. |

SEM |
Acronym: "Search Engine Marketing". Paid for online marketing, also referred to as pay-per-click advertising with search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing. |

SEO |
Acronym: "Search Engine Optimisation". Various techniques to improve the site ranking with search engines, including the process of adding extra descriptive information to each page in order that the content is more visible to search engines. |

Social Media |
A type of content or website which relies heavily on submission of user-generated content and networked user relationships. These include a wide range of sites from social networking sites such as LinkedIn or Facebook, micro-blogging sites such as Twitter, video sharing sites such as YouTube, and other sites centred around user-submissions and interaction. |

SWF |
"Shockwave File" - this is the format of files created by Adobe Flash |
|
Target |
The code which defines the destination of the browser when the user clicks on a link. E.g. the browser could keep the user in the same window, or launch another window, keeping the content of the site in the underlying image. |

TTF |
"Truetype Font" - a standard format for Typeface Files (fonts), which can be uploaded into Supadu and used in the Graphic Title Creator Tool |

URL |
"Uniform Resource Locator" - e.g www.supadu.com - this is the website address usually beginning with "www". |
|
WYSIWYG |
Acronym: "What You See Is What You Get". This refers to the work environment for creating web pages having the exact appearance of the final published web page as seen by visitors to the site. |
